Deepavali is a public holiday in Singapore in 2026. The date falls on November 8 (day of the week calculated by our editorial team), when the Little India district is wrapped in light and colour. Details of the decorations and bazaars are updated on official channels closer to the date, so it’s worth checking before you travel.

What Kind of Festival Is Deepavali?

Deepavali is the Hindu “Festival of Lights” and is officially recognised as a public holiday in Singapore. The holiday commemorates King Rama’s return to Ayodhya after defeating the demon king Ravana, as well as Lord Krishna’s victory over the demon Narakasura.

Little India is where you can feel the festival most strongly in Singapore. The official tourism site Visit Singapore describes stepping into Little India during Deepavali as entering “a world filled with light and colour”. This neighbourhood, already the heart of the local Indian community, takes on an especially vibrant character during the festival period.

Singapore is a multi-ethnic nation, and alongside the Hindu festival of Deepavali, public holidays also mark Buddhist Vesak Day and the Muslim Hari Raya celebrations. This diversity of holiday traditions is also touched on in our guide to National Day highlights. Reading both together will give you a fuller picture of Singapore’s holiday calendar.

When Is the Holiday in 2026?

Deepavali in 2026 falls on Sunday, November 8. Because Deepavali is set according to the lunar calendar, its date changes every year. In 2025, it fell on October 20 (day of the week calculated by our editorial team).

Under Singapore’s public holiday system, when a holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday is gazetted as a replacement holiday. Since November 8, 2026 falls on a Sunday, Monday, November 9 is expected to become the replacement holiday, though this will only be confirmed once officially gazetted.

Where Can You See the Decorations?

The heart of the decorations is Little India. The district is described as being wrapped in light and colour during the festival, and simply walking the illuminated streets at night is enough to soak up the festive atmosphere.

At the time of writing, the exact lighting start date for 2026 has not yet been officially announced. Visit Singapore’s guide notes that details are updated on the official site (deepavali.sg), so it’s worth checking for the latest information as your trip approaches.

If you’re planning to walk around the area at night, it helps to have a working data connection so you can use maps and ride-hailing apps on the spot. An eSIM lets you get online as soon as you land, with no physical SIM swap required. Checking Saily‘s plans before you travel can make getting around on the day much smoother. Enter referral code “DOMUEH5022” at checkout for a discount (check the latest terms on the official site before buying).

For what to wear and pack when heading out to see the decorations, our seasonal clothing guide is also useful. Since you’ll likely be walking outdoors for long stretches at night, comfortable footwear is a must.

What Can You Buy at the Bazaars?

A festive market is known to spring up around Little India during the Deepavali period, but at the time of writing, the 2026 dates and vendor lineup have not yet been officially confirmed. Visit Singapore’s guide also advises checking the official site for details.

Since confirmed information is limited at this stage, this article won’t list specific items available for purchase. As your trip draws closer, check for updates on the official website and look out for local signage and social media posts for the latest on the bazaar’s schedule. For Singapore food in general, our guide to classic local dishes is also worth a read.

Where to Eat Nearby?

The area around Little India is packed with South Indian restaurants and hawker centres. This article won’t go into specific addresses or opening hours, but we’ve covered how to think about choosing an area to eat in other guides.

Knowing how hawker centres work and how to order makes them easy to use even for first-timers. For anyone wanting a quick, casual local meal, a hawker centre is the simplest option.

What About Etiquette in the Crowds?

During the festival period, Little India gets extremely crowded, so the basic rule of thumb is not to block the flow of pedestrian traffic. Given that this is a religious observance, it’s expected that visitors approach temples and shrines quietly and respectfully.

Singapore is also known for imposing fines for etiquette violations in public spaces. Basic rules — no littering, no smoking outside designated areas — apply just as much during festival periods as at any other time.

Singapore's Chinese restaurants differ by region: Shisen Hanten (Sichuan), Imperial Treasure (Teochew), Putien (Hokkien), and 6 more, with areas and hours.

The post Chinese Regional Cuisine in Singapore: 9 Restaurants (2026) first appeared on SINGOHAN.

Chinese cuisine in Singapore isn’t one single cuisine. Restaurants rooted in Sichuan, Teochew, Hokkien, Shanghainese, and other regional traditions serve sharply different signature dishes, sometimes even on different tableware. This article introduces representative restaurants for each regional cuisine, organised by area and typical use case.

Singapore’s food culture has been shaped not only by its Chinese community but also by Malay, Indian, and other ethnic influences. Among the Chinese community itself, immigrants came from many different regions of China, and as a result, Chinese restaurants in Singapore still carry strong regional identities — Sichuan, Teochew, Hokkien, Shanghainese, and more. If you simply search for “Chinese food,” you may end up with something quite different from what you actually wanted. Start by checking the regional breakdown of the restaurants featured below.

Where to Find Sichuan Cuisine?

If you’re after numbing spice and rich aroma, there’s really only one choice: Shisen Hanten.

Located on Level 35 of the Hilton Orchard on Orchard Road, this Sichuan restaurant is listed as suited to couples, dates, business entertaining, and corporate use. Opening hours are 12:00-15:00/18:00-22:30 Mon-Fri, 11:30-15:15/18:00-23:00 Sat, and 11:30-15:15/18:00-22:30 Sun (as of September 2026).

According to the restaurant’s profile, the menu is created by a head chef with over 12 years of experience in Tokyo, and signature dishes include mapo tofu and a stir-fry of Hokkaido Mangalitsa pork made with fermented chilli bean paste. The recently renovated, luxurious interior is another highlight. For more on classic Sichuan dishes in general, see our guide to Singapore’s must-try local dishes, which is worth checking alongside this list.

Where to Find Teochew Cuisine?

For seafood-forward Teochew cuisine, two restaurants stand out: Imperial Treasure Fine Teochew Cuisine and San Shu Gong (Geylang).

Imperial Treasure Fine Teochew Cuisine is located at #03-05, ION Orchard, on Orchard Road. Opening hours are 11:30-15:00/18:00-23:00 Mon-Fri, 11:00-15:00/18:00-23:00 Sat, and 10:30-15:00/18:00-23:00 Sun (as of September 2026). It’s listed as suited to couples, dates, business entertaining, and corporate use, with signature dishes including a chilled steamed sea swimmer crab — limited to just 15 servings a day — and Teochew-style chilled steamed fish.

San Shu Gong (Geylang) is classified under “other areas,” at #01-01, 135 Geylang Road. Opening hours are 12:00-14:30/18:00-23:00 every day (Mon-Sun) (as of September 2026), and it’s listed as suited to family gatherings, business entertaining, and corporate use. Its profile highlights a chilled steamed four-finger threadfin, a rich, fatty white fish that requires advance reservation. Even within Teochew cuisine, choosing between an Orchard mall restaurant and a standalone Geylang shophouse changes the occasion it suits best.

Where to Find Hokkien and Hainanese Cuisine?

For Hokkien cuisine, Putien (Kitchener Road) is the representative choice, while Ivy’s Hainanese Herbal Mutton Soup is the go-to for a nourishing Hainanese-style dish.

Putien (Kitchener Road) is located at 127 Kitchener Road in the Bugis/Kampong Glam area. Opening hours are 11:30-15:00/17:30-22:00 every day (Mon-Sun) (as of September 2026). It’s listed as suited to families, friends, and groups, and its profile notes that this is the very first outlet of a Hokkien restaurant chain founded in 2000, known for its “bian rou” soup — pork paste wrapped in a hand-pounded skin — and a seafood-topped “lor mee.”

Ivy’s Hainanese Herbal Mutton Soup is a hawker stall at #14, Pasir Panjang Food Centre. Opening hours are 11:30-19:30 Mon-Fri, 11:30-15:00 Sat, and closed Sun (as of September 2026). It’s listed as suited to families and solo diners, and its signature dish is a Hainanese herbal mutton soup with a deep herbal aroma. Variants with tendon or bone-in mutton (tulang) are also mentioned in its profile. Even within Chinese cuisine broadly, a specialty restaurant and a hawker stall clearly serve very different occasions.

Where to Find Shanghainese and Ningbo Cuisine?

For Shanghainese cuisine centred on xiao long bao, Zhang Ji Shanghai La Mian Xiao Long Bao is the pick, while Yong Fu offers the harder-to-find Ningbo cuisine.

Zhang Ji Shanghai La Mian Xiao Long Bao is located at #01-56, Alexandra Village Food Centre. Opening hours are 10:00-15:00 Wed-Sun, and closed Mon-Tue (as of September 2026). It’s listed as suited to families, friends, and groups, and beyond xiao long bao, its profile covers a wider range of Shanghainese dishes, including pan-fried pork and chive dumplings and hot-and-sour soup.

Yong Fu is located at Tower 5, #01-444, Suntec City Mall. Opening hours are 11:30-14:30/17:30-21:30 every day (Mon-Sun) (as of September 2026). It’s listed as suited to families, friends, and groups, and its profile notes that it serves the cuisine of Ningbo in eastern Zhejiang Province using Shanghainese-style techniques — a rare specialty in Singapore. Even under the umbrella of “Shanghainese-style,” a xiao long bao specialist and a Ningbo cuisine specialist have entirely different signature dishes, so it’s safer to choose by the specific dish you want.

How Is Cantonese Cuisine Different?

Cantonese cuisine belongs to a different lineage from all of the Sichuan, Teochew, Hokkien, and Shanghainese restaurants covered so far, and it’s represented here by Min Jiang at Dempsey and Jiang-Nan Chun.

Min Jiang at Dempsey is a single-storey restaurant in a colonial building at 7A & 7B Dempsey Road. Opening hours are 11:30-14:30/18:30-22:30 every day (Mon-Sun) (as of September 2026). It’s listed as suited to families, friends, groups, business entertaining, and corporate use — a broad range — and its profile describes a menu that adds refined touches to Cantonese and Sichuan cuisine, with Peking duck and mapo tofu among its signature dishes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which restaurant is best for Sichuan cuisine?

Shisen Hanten in Orchard is the top choice for Sichuan cuisine in Singapore. Set on Level 35 of the Hilton Orchard, it’s led by a head chef with over 12 years of experience in Tokyo, serving signature dishes like mapo tofu and a stir-fry of Hokkaido Mangalitsa pork with fermented chilli bean paste. It suits everything from a couple’s date night to formal business entertaining, thanks to its recently renovated, upscale interior.

Which Teochew restaurant works for business entertaining?

Imperial Treasure Fine Teochew Cuisine, located inside ION Orchard, is listed as suited to couples, business entertaining, and corporate use. Its seafood-forward menu includes a chilled steamed sea swimmer crab limited to just 15 servings a day, along with Teochew-style chilled steamed fish. The polished setting inside one of Orchard Road’s premier malls makes it a reliable option when you need a restaurant that works equally well for a client dinner or a romantic occasion.

Which regional Chinese restaurants are easy to visit with family?

Putien (Kitchener Road) and Min Jiang at Dempsey both list families among their suggested occasions. Putien, the first outlet of a Hokkien chain founded in 2000, is known for its bian rou soup and seafood lor mee, served in a casual, group-friendly setting. Min Jiang at Dempsey, set in a colonial building surrounded by greenery, serves refined Cantonese and Sichuan dishes such as Peking duck and mapo tofu, making it suitable for larger family gatherings too.

Is there a Chinese restaurant that’s comfortable for solo diners?

Ivy’s Hainanese Herbal Mutton Soup, a hawker stall inside Pasir Panjang Food Centre, is listed as suited to both families and solo diners. Its signature Hainanese herbal mutton soup has a deep herbal aroma, with variants that include tendon or bone-in mutton (tulang). As a hawker stall rather than a full-service restaurant, it’s an easy, low-key spot to eat alone without feeling out of place, unlike many of the fine-dining options on this list.

Where can I enjoy Cantonese cuisine?

Min Jiang at Dempsey and Jiang-Nan Chun are both listed as Cantonese restaurants. Min Jiang at Dempsey, in a colonial building on Dempsey Road, adds refined touches to Cantonese and Sichuan dishes, with Peking duck as a highlight. Jiang-Nan Chun, on Level 2 of the Four Seasons Hotel, serves authentic Cantonese dishes such as barbecued meats, double-boiled soups, and seafood, plus a stir-fried Australian tenderloin with Portobello mushroom, making it suited to business entertaining as well.

Is Ningbo cuisine rare in Singapore?

Yes. Yong Fu, inside Suntec City Mall, is described in its own profile as one of the few restaurants in Singapore specialising in Ningbo cuisine, from eastern Zhejiang Province, prepared using Shanghainese-style techniques. This is different from Shanghainese cuisine itself, which is more widely available through restaurants like Zhang Ji Shanghai La Mian Xiao Long Bao, known for xiao long bao and other classic Shanghainese dishes such as pan-fried pork and chive dumplings.

Summary

Chinese cuisine in Singapore spans distinct regional traditions — Sichuan, Teochew, Hokkien, Hainanese, Shanghainese, Ningbo, and Cantonese — each with its own signature dishes. For Sichuan, choose Shisen Hanten. For Teochew, consider Imperial Treasure Fine Teochew Cuisine or San Shu Gong (Geylang). For Hokkien, Putien is the pick, and for Hainanese-style comfort food, Ivy’s Hainanese Herbal Mutton Soup. For Shanghainese and Ningbo cuisine, Zhang Ji Shanghai La Mian Xiao Long Bao and Yong Fu are the respective specialists, while Min Jiang at Dempsey and Jiang-Nan Chun cover Cantonese cuisine. Check the area and suggested occasion for each restaurant before deciding which one matches your plans.

The post Singapore’s SAF Levy: When Do Air Ticket Prices Rise? (2026) first appeared on SINGOHAN.

Starting with tickets purchased on or after October 1, 2026, for flights departing on or after January 1, 2027, air tickets out of Singapore will carry an added Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) levy. The amount depends on your destination — flights to Japan and other Northeast Asian destinations are charged S$2.80 (about US$2.10) in economy class. This article explains who is affected, how much it costs, and what it means for travellers passing through Singapore.

What Is the SAF Levy?

The SAF levy is a charge applied to flights departing from Singapore to help fund the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) has set a target for SAF to make up 1% of the fuel used by all departing flights in 2026. The SAF levy is how the added cost of rolling out this fuel is recovered — added on top of airfares and cargo charges.

The levy applies to three categories:

Passenger tickets (economy, premium economy, business, and first class)

Air cargo shipments

Private aircraft and business jet operations

Singapore is the first country in the world to introduce a levy like this. Some flights are exempt, including training flights and flights for charitable or humanitarian purposes.

When budgeting for a trip to Singapore, it also helps to know the local rules and fines that visitors should keep in mind. See Singapore’s Fines and Rules: What Travellers Need to Know for a full guide.

Which Tickets Are Affected, and When?

Only tickets that are purchased on or after October 1, 2026, for flights departing on or after January 1, 2027 are affected.

Whether the levy applies depends on the combination of purchase date and departure date. Here’s the breakdown from CAAS and MileLion:

Source: MileLion, “Confirmed: Singapore to start collecting green fuel levy from October 2026”

In other words, if you buy your ticket before October 1, 2026, you won’t pay the SAF levy even if your flight departs in 2027 or later. Since airlines typically sell tickets up to a year in advance, booking early gives you a real chance to avoid the charge.

The best time to fly to Singapore, and how airfares move seasonally, is also worth factoring in. See When Is the Best Time to Visit Singapore? for a seasonal breakdown.

How Much Does It Cost by Destination?

Destinations are divided into four geographic bands, and the levy amount depends on the band and the cabin class.

Source: CAAS, “New Sustainable Aviation Fuel Levy to Apply From 1 April 2026…”

The business/first class levy is set at four times the economy amount for the same band. This is based on IATA’s methodology for calculating per-passenger CO2 emissions by cabin class.

The SAF blending target is expected to rise to 3–5% by 2030, at which point the levy amounts are likely to be revised.

What About Flights to Japan or Connecting Flights?

Japan falls under Band II (Northeast Asia), so flights to Tokyo cost S$2.80 (~US$2.10) in economy and S$11.20 (~US$8.40) in business class or above.

CAAS initially estimated economy-class levies of around S$3.00 for Bangkok, S$6.00 for Tokyo, and S$16.00 for London. However, because SAF procurement costs came in lower than expected, the confirmed figures dropped to S$1.00 for Bangkok, S$2.80 for Tokyo, and S$6.40 for London.

For connecting flights, the band is determined by the immediate next destination after departing Singapore — not your final destination.

For example, on a flight to the United States, a routing via Hong Kong (SIN-HKG-SFO) falls under Band II (Northeast Asia), costing S$2.80–S$11.20, while a direct SIN-SFO flight falls under Band IV (the Americas), costing S$10.40–S$41.60 — meaning the connecting flight is cheaper purely in terms of the SAF levy. That said, when airport taxes are factored into the total fare, the savings from connecting can be offset, so it’s not a good idea to choose a routing based on the SAF levy alone.

Passengers who are simply transiting through Singapore — not departing from it — are exempt from the SAF levy.

Travellers heading to or from Japan may also want to know what Japanese food and daily life look like in Singapore. See Can You Find Japanese Food in Singapore? to help plan ahead.

Why Was the Start Date Delayed?

The SAF levy was originally set to apply to tickets purchased from April 1, 2026, with the charge kicking in for flights departing from October 1, 2026.

However, following a spike in oil prices caused by tensions in the Middle East, CAAS pushed back the start date by six months. As a result, collection now begins on October 1, 2026, with the levy applying to flights departing on or after January 1, 2027.

While some had hoped for a further delay amid continued high oil prices, CAAS has stated there will be no further postponement for the passenger levy. The cargo levy, on the other hand, has been pushed back by a full year.

How Will This Affect Your Travel Budget?

On its own, the SAF levy is small — ranging from S$1.00 to S$10.40 in economy class — so its direct impact on your overall travel budget is limited. That said, airlines may adjust base fares to pass on part of the cost, and for reward tickets booked with miles, the full levy amount is typically charged to the traveller.

On top of that, Changi Airport is planning phased increases to airport and passenger service fees starting from April 2027. Costs around air travel are likely to creep up gradually going forward.

When planning your overall trip budget, it also helps to understand typical living costs in Singapore. See How Much Does It Cost to Live in Singapore? for a breakdown by single travellers and families.

If rising airfares mean you want to save on food during your trip, hawker centres are a great way to eat well on a budget. See What Is a Hawker Centre in Singapore? for how to use one.

Airfares also tend to spike during peak periods such as National Day, so spreading out your travel dates is worth considering. Check What Is Singapore’s National Day? for the typical timing of celebrations.

Combining your trip with short getaways to nearby destinations can also help lower your overall travel cost per visit. See Day Trips and Weekend Getaways from Singapore for options like Johor Bahru and Batam.

Sorting out what to pack and wear early can go hand in hand with booking your flight early to avoid the SAF levy. See What to Wear in Singapore in July for a seasonal packing guide.

For those relocating to Singapore for work, changes to flight costs are also worth keeping in mind. See Singapore Work Visas: EP and S Pass Explained for an overview of the relocation process.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does the SAF levy start applying to tickets?

It applies to tickets purchased on or after October 1, 2026, for flights departing on or after January 1, 2027.

How much will flights to Japan cost?

Japan falls under the Northeast Asia band, so economy fares carry a S$2.80 levy and business/first class fares carry S$11.20.

Are connecting flights also taxed?

Yes, but the band — and therefore the amount — is based on the immediate next destination after leaving Singapore, so it varies by routing.

Are passengers just transiting through Singapore affected?

No. Passengers who are only transiting through Singapore, rather than departing from it, are exempt from the SAF levy.

Why was the levy delayed?

Rising fuel prices caused by tensions in the Middle East led CAAS to push back the original April 2026 start date by six months.

Will cargo be taxed at the same time?

No. The cargo levy has been delayed by a full year and will start later than the passenger levy.

Summary

The SAF levy applies to tickets purchased on or after October 1, 2026, for flights departing on or after January 1, 2027. The amount is determined by the destination’s geographic band and cabin class — S$1.00 in economy for Southeast Asia, and S$2.80 for Japan and other Northeast Asian destinations. Passengers who are only transiting through Singapore are exempt. While the levy itself is small, it’s part of a broader trend of rising airfare-related costs — so book early and factor it into your overall travel budget.

The post Singapore Bib Gourmand Guide: 10 Picks by Cuisine (2026) first appeared on SINGOHAN.

Bib Gourmand is a category set apart from Michelin stars within the Michelin Guide. In Singapore, hawker food even made history by becoming the world’s first street food to earn a Michelin star. This article introduces 10 popular, budget-friendly eateries across four culinary roots: Chinese, Malay, Indian, and Peranakan.

What Is Bib Gourmand? How Does It Differ From Starred Restaurants?

Bib Gourmand is a category awarded separately from Michelin stars, recognising restaurants that offer excellent value for money. These are typically more casual, easy-to-visit spots compared to starred restaurants.

In 2016, two hawker stalls in Singapore — Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle and Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle — became the world’s first street food stalls to receive a Michelin star. These two stalls are different from the ones featured in this article.

In 2020, Singapore’s hawker culture was inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, internationally recognised as a place where multi-ethnic food cultures come together.

Singaporean cuisine has developed through Malay, Chinese, and Indian influences, along with Peranakan and Western elements. This article introduces popular, affordable eateries organised by these four culinary roots.

Since the Bib Gourmand list is revised every year, check the official Michelin Guide website for the latest certification status.

Hawker centres are communal facilities that support Singapore’s food culture.

When visiting in a group, it’s efficient for one person to secure a table while the others queue at the stalls they want.

October also brings arts events such as the Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA), Art SG, and the Singapore Writers Festival. Exact dates for these can shift, so once your travel dates are set, it’s safest to confirm details on the official websites.

Knowing how to reach each venue in advance will make getting around on the day much smoother.

Singapore is a city with a packed events calendar all year round, not just in October. If you’re still deciding when to visit, our guides to Singapore in April: Events, Sightseeing & Weather (2026) and Singapore in May: Vesak Day, Weather & Sightseeing (2026) cover other months in detail.

How Long Does Halloween Horror Nights Run at USS?

Halloween Horror Nights runs on select dates through October, with the schedule extending through November 1.

According to published details, the park features haunted houses and scare zones designed to create an immersive experience.

Because the event doesn’t run every single night, it’s worth confirming in advance that your visit date lines up with a scheduled event night. Buying tickets at the gate can mean long waits during busy periods, so arranging them online ahead of time makes for a smoother day. If you’d like to browse Singapore activity tickets in one place, check out Klook’s Singapore activities and attractions.

USS is reached via HarbourFront Station and a short crossing onto Sentosa Island. Since this is a nighttime-only event, it’s best to confirm the dates and hours on the official website before heading over.

What Concerts Are Happening in October?

The headline concert for October 2026 is the BIGBANG World Tour, playing two nights, October 17 and 18, at the National Stadium.

National Stadium is conveniently reached from Stadium Station. Traffic tends to build up around the venue on concert nights, so if you’re booking a ride-hailing app, it’s wise to arrange it with plenty of buffer time.

October also overlaps with several arts events beyond concerts. The Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) brings together theatre, dance, and other performances, with City Hall Station and Esplanade Station serving as the main hubs. Art SG, a contemporary art fair, is held at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre at Marina Bay Sands. If you’re interested in art and performance, pairing these with a concert can make for a rich late-October stay.

When Do Little India’s Decorations Begin?

Little India hosts the Deepavali Festival Village throughout October.

According to published details, the entire neighbourhood lights up, with festive bazaars and cultural performances taking place. The area is conveniently accessed from Little India Station.

The neighbourhood’s decorations and bazaars typically begin well ahead of the actual Deepavali holiday. The atmosphere here is quite different from the buzz around F1 or the concert venues — this is a season for a leisurely stroll through lights and colour.

If you’re travelling with young children, it helps to pair your itinerary with attractions that are enjoyable regardless of season. The spots covered in Singapore’s June School Holidays: 10 Family-Friendly Indoor & Outdoor Spots (2026) work just as well for an October visit.

What’s the Weather Like in October, and What Should You Wear?

Singapore sits right on the equator, and October continues the pattern of high heat, humidity, and sudden downpours. There’s little variation in temperature across the year, so for any outdoor event, you’ll want to pack both rain protection and sun protection.

The general approach to clothing is much the same as in other rainy-season months. For specific packing and outfit suggestions, see What to Wear in Singapore in July: Weather, Clothing & Packing Guide (2026), which applies just as well to October.

If you’re still deciding when to travel altogether, When Is the Best Time to Visit Singapore? A 2026 Guide by Climate and Events compares the climate and event calendar across the year. With so many outdoor and nighttime events in October — F1, Halloween Horror Nights, and more — it’s worth carrying a compact umbrella or rain jacket for sudden downpours. Having indoor options (Art SG, the Singapore Writers Festival, and similar events) to switch to is one of October’s strengths.

What to Eat After a Night at the Events?

October is also when the Singapore Food Festival runs across multiple venues island-wide. Around Marina Bay, Beerfest Asia offers craft beer and live music.

After a concert or a night at Halloween Horror Nights, hawker centres and food courts that stay open late are your best friend for getting a meal without much hassle. For the dishes worth prioritising in Singapore, see Must-Try Singapore Food: 10 Classic Dishes Guide (2026). If spicy or strongly seasoned food isn’t for you, Can You Find Japanese Food in Singapore? A Guide to Japanese Restaurants & Supermarkets (2026) is a handy backup option to know about.

Areas around event venues tend to get crowded on event nights, so it’s worth deciding in advance whether to eat before or after the show, or to head somewhat further away from the venue for a calmer meal.

Summary

Singapore’s October 2026 calendar keeps going strong after the F1 Singapore Grand Prix (October 9-11), with the BIGBANG concert (October 17-18), Halloween Horror Nights (running through select dates to November 1), and Little India’s Deepavali decorations all following close behind. Weather stays hot, humid, and rain-prone, so you can pack the same way you would for any other rainy-season month. Check the nearest MRT station and ticket-booking timeline for each event, and plan meals around food festivals and hawker centres to make the most of late October after F1.

The 2026 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix will be held from Friday, October 9 to Sunday, October 11, with the race itself on October 11. Knowing the schedule, the best viewing zones, and how to get around before you travel makes race weekend far less stressful. As a Singapore-based writer, here’s a practical rundown covering tickets, traffic restrictions around the circuit, and how to enjoy the days around the race itself.

The 2026 event follows the sprint format, with sprint-related sessions scheduled across Friday and Saturday. Exact start times for each session are updated on the official website closer to the event, so it’s worth checking again shortly before you fly out.

The Marina Bay Street Circuit hosted its first race in 2008 and made history as the sport’s first-ever night race. The track runs 4.927 km per lap over 62 laps, for a total race distance of 305.337 km. A 2023 layout change cut the corner count from 23 to 19. Because the circuit is built around closed public roads, its bumpy surface and heavy humidity are known to put extra strain on drivers.

For a broader look at the best time of year to visit Singapore and how other months compare, see When Is the Best Time to Visit Singapore? Climate and Events Guide (2026). October is also a month when several other major events overlap with the race.

What Are the Ticket Types and Zones?

Seating is split mainly between reserved grandstands and walk-around trackside zones. Formula 1’s official guidance highlights the grandstand along Turn 1 as a strong spot to watch the action right after the start.

Turn 1 is where cars brake hard after full acceleration, before flowing into the Turn 2-3 combination. The opening laps here tend to produce close, competitive racing, making it a good pick if you want to catch the early highlights.

Zone layouts and prices change every year, so this guide won’t quote specific figures. Check the official site, singaporegp.sg, for the current zone map before you buy. Popular zones sell out early, so it’s worth locking in a seat as soon as your travel dates are confirmed. The scramble for good seats feels similar to booking tickets during peak season at Universal Studios Singapore — the early-booking tips in The Complete Universal Studios Singapore Guide 2026: Must-Ride Attractions, Tickets, and Avoiding Crowds apply just as well here.

What About Access and Traffic Restrictions Around the Circuit?

The nearest MRT station to the circuit is Promenade (CC4/DT15). Roads around the venue are closed during the race, so driving in isn’t practical — plan on taking the MRT instead.

The Singapore GP is a street circuit built by closing public roads around Marina Bay. During the event window, expect traffic restrictions on roads surrounding the circuit. Exact closure zones and lifting times are announced closer to the event, so check official updates before you set out each day.

The City Hall and Esplanade areas tend to get crowded with separate events during the same period, so it’s smart to build in extra travel time. If you’re using a ride-hailing app, set your pickup point outside the restricted zone so drivers can actually reach you. For behaviour that can get you fined locally, see Singapore Fines and Rules to Know: A Local Etiquette Guide (2026). General packing and pre-trip checks are covered in Singapore Travel Tips 2026: Fines, Etiquette, and Things to Avoid.

Staying connected for maps and ride-hailing apps gets tricky without local data. Setting up an eSIM before you land means Grab and map apps work the moment you arrive. Saily (https://saily.com/) is an eSIM service where you can choose a data plan online, and entering referral code “DOMUEH5022” at sign-up unlocks a discount (check the official site for current details).

What to Enjoy Between Race Sessions?

October 2026 brings several large-scale events to Singapore that overlap with F1 week. Knowing what’s on nearby makes it easy to fill the gaps between sessions.

Deepavali Festival Village (near Little India station): the whole neighbourhood is lit up with lights and street stalls

Singapore Food Festival: food-focused events run across the island

Beerfest Asia (near Marina Bay station): craft beer and live music

Halloween Horror Nights (Universal Studios Singapore): runs on select nights through November 1

Hawker food is an easy way to fill the time between sessions. The Must-Try Singapore Food Guide: 10 Local Dishes to Order (2026) and 10 Local Noodle Shops in Singapore: An Area-by-Area Guide (2026) both list spots easy to visit before or after a race day.

If you’re travelling with family and want time away from the track, S.E.A. Aquarium Singapore Guide (2025): Highlights, Tickets, and Tips for Families is a solid option. Managing crowds shares some overlap with the free viewing strategies described in What Is Singapore’s National Day? NDP 2026 Highlights and Free Viewing Spots.

How to Prepare for Heat and Rain?

Beyond the bumpy road surface, Singapore’s humidity is a known source of strain on drivers. Spectators face the same conditions, so preparing for heat and moisture matters just as much as picking a good seat.

According to Formula 1, the physical toll of the race is significant enough that drivers can lose up to 3 kg in body weight over a race. Spectators will also spend long stretches in open-air grandstands, so bring water and something to block direct sun.

The same packing logic covered in What to Wear in Singapore in July: Weather and Packing Guide (2026) — breathable fabrics and a compact umbrella — carries over to October just as well. Temperatures can dip a little during the night race, so a light layer is worth packing too.

Frequently Asked Questions

What time does the race start?

The race takes place on October 11, 2026, as part of the Singapore Grand Prix weekend at Marina Bay Street Circuit. The official start time is confirmed closer to the event on the Formula 1 website, so it’s worth checking again in the days before you travel, since timings can shift alongside the sprint format used in 2026.

Where can I buy tickets?

Tickets are sold through the official website, singaporegp.sg. Zone options and prices are updated every year, so check the official site for the latest information before you buy. Popular zones such as the Turn 1 grandstand tend to sell out early, so it’s worth securing a seat as soon as event dates are confirmed, particularly if you’re also booking flights and accommodation from overseas.

What’s the nearest station to the circuit?

The circuit is best reached via Promenade MRT station (CC4/DT15), within walking distance of the venue and surrounding grandstands. Since race weekend brings road closures around Marina Bay, taking the MRT is the most reliable way to get close to the circuit, and it avoids the disruptions that affect cars and ride-hailing pickups near the track during the event.

Are there other events happening during the race weekend?

Yes. October 2026 brings several major events alongside the Grand Prix, including the Deepavali Festival Village near Little India, the Singapore Food Festival held at venues across the island, and Beerfest Asia near Marina Bay. Universal Studios Singapore also runs Halloween Horror Nights on selected nights through November 1, giving visitors plenty to do beyond the racetrack.

When was the circuit built?

The Marina Bay Street Circuit held its first race in 2008, becoming Formula 1’s first-ever night race and putting Singapore on the international motorsport calendar. The layout was revised in 2023, reducing the number of corners from 23 to 19, and it remains one of the most physically demanding circuits on the calendar due to its bumpy surface and tropical humidity.

Where’s the best spot to watch the race?

Formula 1’s official guidance highlights the grandstand along Turn 1 as a strong viewing spot, since it captures the action right after the start, including hard braking and the fight into Turns 2 and 3. Early laps tend to produce close racing as drivers jostle for position, making this section appealing for anyone who wants to see the opening battle up close.

Summary

The 2026 Singapore GP runs from October 9 to 11, with the race itself on October 11 at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. The nearest station is Promenade, and expect traffic restrictions in the surrounding area throughout the event. The Turn 1 grandstand is the officially recommended viewing spot. Pair the race with the Food Festival and Deepavali happening the same month, and your trip won’t be limited to the track alone.

Singapore’s modern fine dining scene is easiest to navigate when you sort it by three factors: area, cuisine, and occasion. Around Clarke Quay and Robertson Quay you’ll find a cluster of Japanese and French restaurants, while Orchard Road and the Marina/City Hall area have a scattering of quieter, more formal venues. This guide organizes 10 restaurants along these three axes, complete with opening hours and links to each restaurant’s page.

How Should You Choose “Modern Fine Dining” in Singapore?

Narrowing your options down by area, cuisine, and occasion makes the decision much easier. Before diving into specific restaurants, it helps to have a sense of the bigger geographic picture. For an overview of Singapore’s neighborhoods, including Marina Bay and Chinatown, see our Complete Area-by-Area Guide to Singapore.

All 10 restaurants featured in this article are real establishments listed in our own restaurant database. The information here is limited strictly to what’s recorded in the database: area, cuisine, typical occasion, address, opening hours, official website, and description. We have no reliable way to verify price ranges, dress codes, or how difficult it is to book a table, so this article does not cover those points. Always check each restaurant’s official website for the latest information before your visit.

The next three sections group the restaurants by area. After that, we look at cuisine and occasion, and close with a comparison table covering all 10 restaurants.

If you’d like to explore more Japanese restaurants in Singapore, see our guide to 20 Japanese Restaurants in Singapore.
If you’re planning to move between areas, it helps to check how MRT and Grab work before your visit. See our Complete Guide to Public Transport in Singapore for details.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which restaurants offer lunch service?

Lerouy, Jag, Thevar, Buona Terra, Alma, Labyrinth, and Nouri all offer lunch service on at least some days of the week. Check each restaurant’s official website for the specific days, since lunch hours vary considerably from one restaurant to another and may change seasonally.

Are any restaurants open every day with no closing day?

Yes. Candlenut is open Monday through Sunday with no closing day, according to our database as of August 2026. This makes it a flexible option if you’re planning a spontaneous dinner or traveling on a tight schedule with no fixed date in mind.

Which restaurant is easiest to visit with family?

Candlenut is the only restaurant in this list registered with “family” as a suitable occasion. It also offers a la carte dishes designed for sharing on large plates, which works well for groups with different tastes, including children who may want lighter options.

Which restaurant stays open latest at night?

Nouri is registered with hours running until midnight on Wednesday through Sunday, making it the latest-closing restaurant among the ten featured here. Confirm the exact closing time on the night of your visit, since late-night hours can occasionally shift by season.

Is any restaurant closed on Tuesdays?

Yes. Labyrinth is registered as closed on Tuesdays in our database. Please confirm this directly on the restaurant’s official website before planning your visit, since holiday schedules and seasonal adjustments can occasionally change a restaurant’s regular closing day without notice.

Do all restaurants require reservations?

Our database entries for this article do not include reservation details, so we cannot confirm this. Please check each restaurant’s official website directly, as most fine dining restaurants in Singapore strongly recommend or require advance booking, especially on weekends and during busy travel periods.

Summary

Yes — Singapore tap water, managed by PUB and blended from Johor imports, NEWater, and desalination, meets drinking-water standards. Here's what expats and visitors should know.

Singapore’s tap water is supplied as high-quality drinking water managed by the Public Utilities Board (PUB), and it is safe to drink straight from the tap. This guide covers what the water actually tastes like, whether it’s fine for baby formula, where to refill your bottle when you’re out, and how to think about bottled water and filters if you’d rather not rely on the tap alone.

Is Singapore Tap Water Safe to Drink Straight From the Tap?

Yes, it is safe to drink. The water PUB supplies is consistently rated highly for quality, coverage, and affordability.

Nationwide access to piped water is universal, with both coverage and water quality at a very high standard

The water supply is fluoridated at 0.7 ppm, and Singapore was the first country in Asia to run a nationwide fluoridation programme

NEWater, the country’s reclaimed water, is even sold bottled, and government leaders have publicly drunk it to demonstrate its safety

Singapore achieved water self-sufficiency by the mid-2010s

Given this track record, drinking straight from the tap is a perfectly normal choice here. If you’re still a little unsure, the sections below cover practical workarounds.

Does the Taste or Smell Differ From What You’re Used to at Home?

Because Singapore blends water from several different sources, the taste can come across differently than tap water you’re used to elsewhere.

Water Source

Share of Supply

Imported water from Johor, Malaysia

About 50%

Reclaimed water (NEWater)

Up to about 40%

Desalinated water

Up to about 25%

Domestic rainwater catchment

Remainder

Source:

Because it draws on multiple sources, people’s impressions of the taste vary quite a bit from person to person. If you notice a difference, chilling the water tends to mask any variation in taste.

Is It Safe to Use for Baby Formula?

Yes — since the tap water meets drinking-water standards, it’s generally fine to use for preparing infant formula.

One thing worth knowing is that the supply is fluoridated at 0.7 ppm. If you’d like extra reassurance, it’s worth checking with your pediatrician before you travel, and using bottled mineral water alongside tap water if that puts your mind at ease. If you’re relocating to Singapore with family on an Employment Pass or S Pass, it’s worth reviewing the work visa application process as part of your planning.

Where Can You Refill a Water Bottle While Out and About?

Public refill stations aren’t everywhere, so carrying a reusable bottle is the most practical approach day to day.

NEWater operates a visitor centre where you can learn more about the reclamation process. Since the number and location of refill points vary by venue, it’s worth checking official information before you visit. On days with long outdoor stretches, like a full day at Universal Studios Singapore, filling your bottle before the gates open is a good habit. The same goes if you’re heading out for a day trip to Johor Bahru or another border town — top up before you leave.

How Much Does Bottled Mineral Water Cost?

Bottled mineral water is easy to find at convenience stores and supermarkets across Singapore.

Prices vary by store and brand, so this article won’t quote a specific figure. For a broader sense of everyday costs, our guide to Singapore’s cost of living breaks down typical food and household spending. You can also order bottled water through food delivery apps, which is handy to keep in mind on days when heading out isn’t convenient.

Do You Need a Water Filter or Water Dispenser?

No, it’s not a necessity, since the tap water itself is already supplied as high-quality drinking water.

If you’re particular about taste, or if you’re considering a move to a condominium, it’s worth thinking about a filter or dispenser based on what the unit already offers. If you’re on a longer-term posting, there’s no rush — you can decide once you’ve settled in.

Is the Ice and Juice at Hawker Stalls Safe?

The tap water supply itself is managed to a high standard, and ice and drinks at food stalls are generally assumed to be made from the same tap water supply.

The same logic applies to drinks at hawker centres. If you’d like less ice in your drink, just ask for “less ice” and staff will happily adjust. Building in some time at air-conditioned spots, like a Japanese restaurant, also helps you pace your hydration in Singapore’s humid climate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will drinking tap water straight give you an upset stomach?

Everyone’s tolerance differs slightly, but the water supply is treated to meet drinking-water standards before it reaches the tap. Most residents and visitors drink it directly without any issues. If you have a particularly sensitive stomach or are newly arrived, easing in gradually or pairing it with bottled water for the first few days can help.

Is NEWater the same thing as regular tap water?

NEWater is reclaimed water that has been highly purified, and it’s blended into the wider supply network as one of several sources feeding the tap. So while it isn’t the entirety of what comes out of your tap, it makes up a meaningful share of the overall blend, alongside imported and desalinated water.

Why is fluoride added to the tap water?

Fluoride is added specifically to help prevent tooth decay, as part of a nationwide fluoridation programme that covers the whole population. This approach is common in many countries and Singapore was the first in Asia to roll it out at a national level, at a concentration of 0.7 ppm.

Is hotel tap water also safe to drink?

Hotels are connected to the same public water supply network as residential buildings, so the water quality is essentially the same. If you’d still prefer bottled water during your stay, most hotels stock it at the front desk or minibar for a small fee.

Does water quality change during Singapore’s rainy season?

Singapore’s average annual rainfall of 2,400 mm is well above the global average of 1,050 mm, and the catchment system is specifically engineered to manage this volume of rainwater. Treatment processes are designed with this seasonal variation in mind, so quality remains consistent year-round.

What happens if imports from Malaysia are disrupted?

Singapore reached water self-sufficiency by the mid-2010s, meaning the country can maintain supply through NEWater, desalination, and local catchment even without relying on imported water. This diversification was a deliberate national strategy built up over several decades.

Summary

Singapore’s tap water is supplied as high-quality drinking water managed by PUB, and it’s safe to drink straight from the tap. The supply blends four sources — imported water, NEWater, desalinated water, and local rainwater catchment — and Singapore achieved full self-sufficiency by the mid-2010s. The same tap water is used for baby formula, ice, and juice, though you can always pair it with bottled mineral water or a filter if that gives you extra peace of mind. Carrying a reusable bottle when you’re out makes it much easier to stay hydrated in the humid climate.

Planning 3 days in Singapore in late September 2026? Here's how to split Sentosa and Marina Bay, why this week is high season, and what to book ahead of F1.

The post Singapore 3-Day Itinerary for September 2026 (High Season) first appeared on SINGOHAN.

Even a compact 3-day trip is enough to see Singapore properly. Late September 2026 happens to fall during Japan’s “Silver Week” — a run of public holidays that includes Respect for the Aged Day (September 21) and the Autumnal Equinox Day (September 23), which combine with the surrounding weekend to give many Japanese travellers up to five consecutive days off. Because Singapore is one of the most popular short-haul destinations for East Asian travellers, this window tends to be a genuine high season locally — even though Singapore itself has no public holiday that week. This guide maps out a day-by-day route from arrival to departure, plus what you should book before you land.

What Makes Singapore’s Late-September Window Special?

In 2026, Japan’s Respect for the Aged Day falls on Monday, September 21, with Tuesday, September 22 designated as an extra holiday, and Wednesday, September 23 marking the Autumnal Equinox. Combined with the preceding weekend, this creates a possible five-day stretch from Saturday, September 19 through Wednesday, September 23.

Respect for the Aged Day was moved to the third Monday of September in 2003 under Japan’s “Happy Monday” system, which was designed specifically to create long weekends by anchoring certain holidays to Mondays.

Singapore itself has no public holiday scheduled in September 2026. That means shops, attractions and transport all run on their normal schedules — you don’t need to worry about closures, only about crowds and pricing during this East Asian travel peak.

Even on a short 3-day trip, starting sightseeing on your arrival evening, splitting Sentosa and Marina Bay across your middle day, and using your final morning efficiently is enough to cover the essentials. It’s worth reading our area-by-area guide to Singapore beforehand so you know what each district offers before you’re on the ground.

Day 1: How Far Can You Get After Arriving?

If you land in the late afternoon or evening, it’s wise to keep your first day light — just enough to get a feel for the city.

Take in the night skyline around Marina Bay

Grab a simple meal at a nearby hawker centre or food court

Check tomorrow’s route on your phone before you sleep

Don’t overpack your schedule on day one — protect tomorrow from jet lag and travel fatigue. September still brings hot, humid conditions, so the packing advice in our seasonal clothing guide applies just as well here as it does in July.

If you only manage one activity on arrival night, make it the Supertree light show at Gardens by the Bay — it gives you breathing room on Day 2. Pack insect repellent and sun protection while you’re organising your bag.

Day 2: How Should You Split Sentosa and Marina Bay?

Your middle day is best split between two districts: mornings on Sentosa Island, afternoons and evenings around Marina Bay.

Our Sentosa Island complete guide covers how to get there and which spots are worth your time. If you’re heading to the theme park, read our Universal Studios Singapore guide first so you can prioritise the rides you actually want to ride, rather than losing time deciding on the spot.

Fitting both Sentosa and Marina Bay into one day is largely a race against travel time. If you want to compare longer options, our 3, 5 and 7-day itinerary guide lays out standard routes side by side.

Many visitors end up eating near Marina Bay in the evening. If you’re craving something familiar, our guide to Japanese restaurants and grocery stores in Singapore is a useful reference.

Day 3: What Can You Fit In Before Your Flight?

Your final day should be planned backwards from your flight time. Once you account for the trip to the airport and check-in deadlines, you’ll usually have just a few hours in the morning.

Have breakfast near your hotel

Avoid long-distance transfers — stay within your hotel’s neighbourhood

Finish any duty-free shopping or last-minute souvenirs

To avoid accidentally breaking a rule on your last morning, it’s worth checking our Singapore fines and rules guide ahead of time. If you’re carrying vaping devices, also check our vaping ban guide before you pack.

What Happens If Your Trip Overlaps with F1 Race Week?

The Singapore Grand Prix (F1) is held annually, and depending on the year, it can overlap with your travel dates. The exact schedule is announced each year by the organisers and published on the official F1 site, so always confirm the current dates before you finalise your trip.

During race week, parts of the city centre are subject to road closures and traffic restrictions. Hotel availability and pricing can also shift from normal patterns, so it’s worth checking that year’s F1 calendar while you’re still planning your dates. Our Singapore annual events calendar lists the major recurring events across the year.

Whether F1 overlaps with this high-season window varies year to year. Confirm the official schedule while you’re planning, and if there is an overlap, stay flexible about which neighbourhood you book and how you plan to get around.

What Should You Book in Advance?

On a short 3-day trip, you have almost no spare time to queue up or arrange things on the ground. Entry tickets and transport should be locked in before you leave home.

Entry tickets for attractions such as Gardens by the Bay

Sentosa Island attraction and transport tickets

Airport-to-hotel transfers

Most of these can be reserved online before you fly, which cuts down significantly on the time you’d otherwise spend queuing on the day.

The shorter your trip, the more any time spent arranging things on the ground eats directly into your sightseeing time. Plan around getting anything bookable done before you land.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many consecutive days off does Japan’s Silver Week give in 2026?

From Saturday, September 19 through Wednesday, September 23, the calendar lines up to allow up to five consecutive days off in Japan.

Does Singapore have a public holiday in September too?

No, Singapore has no public holiday scheduled for September 2026. Shops, attractions and transport all run as usual.

Can you realistically cover both Sentosa and Marina Bay in three days?

Yes — spend your middle-day morning on Sentosa and shift to Marina Bay from the afternoon onward, and you can cover both areas within a single day.

When should I check if my trip overlaps with F1 race week?

Check the official F1 site as soon as you start planning your dates, and if there’s an overlap, reconsider your hotel location and how you’ll get around the city.

How much sightseeing is realistic on the final day?

Working backwards from your flight’s check-in deadline, you’ll typically have only a few hours in the morning to move around.

What should I pack for the weather?

Late September is still hot and humid, so the same packing approach used for a July trip applies here as well.

Summary

In 2026, Japan’s Silver Week runs from Respect for the Aged Day (Sept 21) through the Autumnal Equinox (Sept 23), creating a possible five-day break. Singapore itself has no holiday that week, so everything on the ground runs normally. On a 3-day trip, keep day one light, split Sentosa and Marina Bay across your middle day, and plan only a few active hours on your final morning. If your dates overlap with F1 race week, expect road closures and shifting hotel availability, so check the official schedule early. Above all, book your entry tickets and transfers before you leave — on a short trip, time spent arranging things on the ground is time taken directly out of your sightseeing.

In Singapore, every hawker stall tends to specialise in one type of noodle dish, and the mix of stalls changes from neighbourhood to neighbourhood. This guide organises 10 local noodle stalls across Chinatown, Bugis/Kampong Glam, Tiong Bahru, and areas further from the city centre, sorted by who you’re dining with and what hours they keep. Use it to decide where to go based on where you’re staying and who you’re eating with.

Where Are Singapore’s Best Local Noodle Stalls Located?

The short answer: noteworthy noodle stalls cluster in four areas — Chinatown, Bugis/Kampong Glam, Tiong Bahru, and a handful of spots slightly outside the city centre. Nearly all of them are hawker stalls inside hawker centres or wet markets, and each stall tends to have its own signature dish.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Most Singapore Noodle Stalls Inside Hawker Centres?

Yes — most of the 10 stalls featured here are individual stalls inside hawker centres or wet markets. Operating hours vary from stall to stall, so it’s worth checking each one’s listing before visiting, especially since some open only for a few hours a day.

Is There a Michelin-Starred Noodle Stall?

Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle is the only bak chor mee (minced pork noodle) stall in Singapore to hold a Michelin star. It has become one of the most famous examples of a hawker stall earning global recognition since Michelin stars were first awarded to hawker food in 2016.

Is There a 24-Hour Noodle Stall?

Shan Yuan Handmade Fish Ball Noodles is open 24 hours from Monday to Saturday, and from 0:00 to 20:00 on Sundays (as of August 2026). This makes it a reliable option if you need noodles outside typical meal hours.

Which Stalls Are Easy to Visit Alone?

Nine out of the 10 stalls list “solo diners” as a suitable scenario. 545 Whampoa Prawn Noodles lists solo dining as its only suitable scenario, making it especially easy to visit by yourself.

Which Stalls Are Recommended for Families?

Shan Yuan Handmade Fish Ball Noodles, Hong Heng Fried Sotong Prawn Mee, Wok Hei Hor Fun, and Da Shi Jia Big Prawn Mee all list “family” among their suitable scenarios. These four are good starting points if you’re travelling with children or extended family.

Can Opening Hours Change on the Day?

Because these are individual hawker stalls rather than full restaurants, hours can change from what’s listed here. Always check the stall’s individual listing page shortly before you visit, especially for stalls with short or irregular operating windows.

Summary

Singapore’s local noodle stalls are spread across four areas: Chinatown, Bugis/Kampong Glam, Tiong Bahru, and other pockets slightly outside the city centre. From the Michelin-starred Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle, to the 24-hour Shan Yuan Handmade Fish Ball Noodles, to the century-old 545 Whampoa Prawn Noodles, each stall differs in hours and suitable scenarios. Match your choice to your area and travel companions, and confirm the address and hours before you go.
